Is 20th November each year.  This is the 15th year of the international event.

I decided that it would be an awesome idea for our school GSA to at least have an announcement.

So I wrote one and got it approved, and tomorrow, I get to say it:

Senior class president: “We will now take an extended moment of silence for Transgender Day of Remembrance.”

GSA President: Transgender Day of Remembrance is a day to honour trans- and gender non-conforming- people who have been the victim of hate crimes in the past year.  Countless people were victims in the United States alone this year, and this continues to be a problem throughout the rest of the world, too.  The recorded number of deaths this year is 238.

Me: Victims were aged between 13 and 60.  Among them, we ask you to remember the inspirational Ms. Islan Nettles of New York and Miami performer Ms. Wanda.  Spectrum asks you to remember that these crimes still happen despite our fight for equality, and we ask you to take whatever actions you can to continue to promote understanding and compassion toward everyone.

It's not much, but our school seems so ignorant of all the LGBTQ hate crime that still happens, so we figured this would be a good wake-up call.

Beautiful, I'm so glad you could reach out to the other members of your school and try to open them up to the thought of equality.

Thank you!  Unfortunately, the school was too rowdy to appreciate what we did, but it was still fun.

Recently, a trans woman was stabbed to death.  She went to my university.  She was friends with many of my friends, though I'm not entirely sure if I've met her.  I went to her vigil.  I saw that the student trans community was grieving, and many of them were worried about their own safety.  Nobody knows whether it was the product of an argument or whether it was a hate crime. Either way, fear spread.  But we also came together to honor her life and be strong together as an LGBTA community.

God, I don't even know if I can really celebrate it without breaking out into tears.  On the day after the vigil, my one of my friends and his girlfriend died of a drug overdose.  And even more recently, my cousin's husband died.  I'm having trouble coping and have a tendency to cry a lot and start arguments with the people around me.

I need to cool down.

Oh, that's terrible... Hopefully everyone will be okay...

Geez :( I'm so sorry :huggle: If there's anything I can do to help you, even if you need someone to talk to, let me know.  I'm not on here as often, but I'll respond as much as I can.

Sometimes it's just better to let it all out first.  It's completely normal!  And it helps a lot.

Thank you so much.  It means a lot to me.

I'm feeling better now.  Let's just say it got a lot worse, then a lot better.  Things are working out fine.  I'm glad I was able to navigate through this whole debacle without doing something stupid.

And thank you again.

No problem :)

Well, even with a little dip downwards, as long as you're feeling better, that's what's important! :huggle:

Thank you!  I feel so happy that I'm visiting my relatives in San Francisco.  It's such an amazing city.  I would love to live here one day!
